PARTING SHOTS

Our last day on Islay, and we get to play this terrific golf course just one more time. The mowers are on the 18th green just outside our window, and it looks to be shaping up for another fantastic weather day. Breakfast hits the spot once again……..can’t say we have been served anything but great meals during our stay. Jimmy down in the pro shop has us ready to go……..smash a few at the driving range first, then we are off. I feel almost like I am doing a commercial for The Machrie, but truly, if you are in Scotland anyway, this place is worth the drive and the ferry ride.

OUR TABLE JUST DOWN THE END UNDER THE ART

Jutta and Sibylle have uncovered a local gem that we hope to hit for a late lunch…….The Oyster Shed……..a little out of the way, but I have found it on the nav so we should be fine. We are off the course and into the car in seconds, hitting the road quickly because our timing might have been a little off and we have to move it if we hope to have an oyster lunch. OK, we missed it……..did our best on the way here with some single lane roads, but they had already closed and were setting up for a private party that evening……..looks like a fantastic spot, and the oysters couldn’t be fresher.

LOOK OUT SHEEP……WE’RE GOING TO THE OYSTER SHED
LOTS OF THINGS TO DO ON ISLAY

We have a very early start in the morning, hoping to be first in line for the early ferry back to the mainland……..all goes well……the Beemer is packed and we are surely first in line……..good thing, because the ferry is full.

It is even too early to think about breakfast in the galley, but not wanting to break with tradition I forced myself to order some black pudding and flat sausage……stacked it on a bap, slathered with brown sauce (HP)……….lovely! We will backtrack our route to Edinburgh, and have booked in at an airport hotel for the night. Driving through Inverary again we find the main street bustling and decide to stop for a little break…….turns into breakfast #2 at one of the locals. All goes well on the drive and we are at the hotel with loads of time to spare. We Uber’d into the city and were dropped close to Dishoom where we would have dinner later. I pointed the goats in the direction of Princess Street and they were off for a shopping spree. We met up in a couple of hours for our reservation at Dishoom……what a crazy busy place this is. Started in London in 2010, it now has numerous locations in the UK and is a roaring success. The Edinburgh location has two above ground floors + a basement level featuring a big bar where you hang while waiting for your table. The whole place is jammed, but we are buzzed and taken upstairs fairly quickly. Huge menu with lots of options…….all Indian, and very tasty. We stroll around this gorgeous city for a bit after dinner and eventually call an Uber to get us back to the hotel.

We are such good little travellers…….everything goes smoothly in the morning…….dropping the ladies with the bags and coffins, then saying goodbye to the Beemer. The flight home was a breeze, and back in Collingwood in no time. The end of a really great trip. Sorry it took so long to wrap this one up…….just getting ready to leave for Morocco next week, so will be in touch from Casablanca when we arrive. Cheers all…….thanks for reading.
