Ever since “Plan B” was released from winter storage a few weeks ago (thanks PL), this song has been the one dominating my “head playlist”………you know………that song that you just can’t stop hearing in your head………all day long…….”ALL” day long……no matter what you are up to…….doing your workout……going for a hike……..driving in the car…….. grocery shopping…….sitting at the computer………when you can’t get to sleep at night………driving you crazy……….”it’s there”………and you can’t remember all the words……your voice sucks……..but you sing it to yourself regardless. Those lyrics……..”Goin’ places that I’ve never been”……”Seein’ things that I may never see again”…….how they hit home, and are so relevant to what Jutta and I are about to embark upon for the next month or so. It’s a new adventure, and one that we can’t wait to share with you. Still singing that damn song.
Here’s the plan……..leaving this morning (more on that later), I will drop Jutta at the airport and she will fly to Vancouver, visit with Sam and see her fab new pad in North Van, scoot over to Victoria for a week long golf and dining extravaganza with her GBC Sista’s………next Monday she will jump on a shorty flight from Victoria to Seattle, where Hugh will magically appear as she walks out of the terminal, Plan B in tow, Starbucks latte in the cup holder, and a warm flaky croissant waiting to be devoured……….get outta here! Hugh’s story will dominate the blog for the next week, documenting his travels and experiences driving across the country to meet his honey….what could happen?………just how exciting could that be?…..we will find out.
Our primary target is Bandon Dunes……..look it up……..if you golf…..sooner or later, you must go! Can’t say anything else about other targets for now, but with Jutta……..every day is guaranteed to be an adventure…….can’t wait.
Colder weather was expected this morning for our scheduled 6:30am departure, and the light snow coating the truck and Plan B was really not all that bad……….but then it started, slowly at first……then full on…….and it was snow……….and it was ice pellets……..and the wind picked up…….and it was a mess…………..I was so thankful Jutta said lets hook up tonight (no, not that, the trailer) because before you knew it we were ahead of the game but still twenty minutes behind schedule. It was very interesting getting out of the Collingwood area. I approached the 4-way stop at the Collingwood Airport and applied the brakes……..the truck ABS was going off to beat the band, I could see in the mirror that Plan B was doing the Hokey Pokey out back, and there was no way I was making the stop sign………good thing it was 7:00am and rush hour at the airport hadn’t quite kicked in or it could have been a problem. We rolled/skidded through without stopping. Once south of Barrie it cleared up and was clear sailing the rest of the day………thankful.
My drive was uneventful……..after dropping Jutta, down the 401 to the 402, crossing the border in Sarnia, and then headed west/south on Hwy69…….only 500 miles, but ended up at my target, Bristol, Indiana. Now comfortably sitting here with my duty free bottle by my side………..more miles and tales to tell tomorrow…………glad you are along for the ride.
