Wow, are we glad we decided to bypass Wawa last night and get to Sault St Marie (moose incident aside). Wawa received a good whack of the white stuff last night so the roads would be absolute crap today, while The Soo was far enough east to miss the weather altogether. We covered 1,000km each of the last two days, and although that doesn’t sound like a lot when you know you can boot it in your car at 120km/hr, we were pretty happy pulling Plan B at 90-100 max and dealing with the road conditions. The good news is that we only have about 600km to cover today.
We are on the road by 8:00am, stopping for coffee along the way, then onto the highway with no bad weather or shitty roads all day long. Our only mistake today was getting sucked in by a “pickerel for sale” sign at one of the reservations along the way…….we followed a series of arrows on to the res, then they just stopped……..I asked a guy who was doing some road work, and he just laughed…….”too late for pickerel my friend”. OK one more mistake……..I am in the habit of blocking the little side window defroster vent because somehow the airflow deflects and catches me in my left eye causing it to water…..I had it blocked with my brand new red and black checkered buff, a beauty, and totally forgot to remove it before opening the window to adjust the mirror……..it was sucked out immediately……crap. A new one is already on order.

Before long we were in familiar territory and could smell the green green grass of home……..stopped at the cottage where Jutta’s car was stored in the garage, and made it over to Collingwood around 3:30. Plan B was expertly parked in the driveway with only one jiggy jiggy, and will get a wash tomorrow before she goes down to winter in London at CanAm RV and have the awning fixed. Total distance driven for the trip was 11,613.8 km, with average fuel economy of 20.3L/100km, most of which was done while pulling Plan B. That’s a litre of gas every 5km……2,322 litres at an average price of $1.10 makes it $2,554 cost of gas……can that be correct?……..we’ll find out when the Visa bill arrives……..yikes. Oh, I still have half a tank left, but that’s pretty close to empty……right?

It is nice to be home, enjoying a cocktail and watching the Masters highlights. Great little dinner with my honey and partner in crime……steaks on the barbie, and we cracked a Black Hills Carmenere…..yummy. For someone who has never camped in her life, I have to say that Jutta was a real trooper on the trip………..it was another in a series of adventures I hope never ends. I will post a wrap-up in a few days once I have a chance to digest all that has happened over the past 40 days……..it has been great fun having you along for the ride…….well over 3,200 views on the blog, and some great comments along the way……Cheers y’all.
