Black Mountain

Kelowna – Black Mountain

Today began like many others, with me outside cooking bacon and eggs in my jammies…..yes, yellow crocs completed the outfit.  Outside works better for frying anything…….no spray on the cooktop, and no lingering odour.  These fresh eggs from our host are fantastic.  Our golf today was scheduled for 2pm, but our request for an earlier time came through, and the phone call gave us just one hour to be on the first tee at 11am.  I was outside washing some of the highway grime from Plan B, and taking care of my sanitary duties……..getting good at this, especially with a dedicated dump hole right at our site.  Wrapped that up in a heartbeat and we were on our way to Bear Mountain GC in minutes.

I like this policy

The weather was great, and the course looked fantastic from what we could see on the way in.  Our starter was a nice guy……former ski coach with back east connections………anybody know Dave Knowles?…..good friend of his.  Nice course, but the back nine pales in comparison to the front, and playing as a twosome sandwiched between foursomes was a bit of a drag.  Although we played in 4 hours, we know we could have done it in two and a half.  They give you a $10 voucher each with your green fee that can be redeemed in the pro shop or restaurant following the round, so a couple of beers and some fries later, we were on our way home.

We decided to scoot over to Quails Gate and pick up some of the foch…..fosh…..oh fok………made it just in time before the shop closed.  Another winery “Frind” hit our radar the other day, and as it was close by, we decided to check it out.  It  was in the midst of closing down for the day, but they said we could look around if we liked.  This is a very interesting story and one that I will read more about.  Markus Frind…….creator of Kettle of Fish dating service, and self made tech millionaire, has stepped into the BC wine business in a big way, and might be someone to watch in the next few years.  We didn’t get a chance to taste anything, but might pop over again if time permits.  Beautiful property, formerly owned by Premier Bennett.

Our dinner at Cedar Creek a couple of nights ago was good enough to have us re-book for tonight.  Rather than go for the 3 course tasting menu again, we just went a la carte, and ordered another bottle of their delicious 2018 Estate Syrah………still trying to find a couple of bottles to bring home, but no luck, and they won’t sell us any.

We have a late tee time at Gallaghers Canyon tomorrow which we will dump in favour of a trip south to Oliver, visiting some of our favourites along the way.

Lots of picking going on out here right now……these guys are ready!

Wow…I’ve cancelled our Netflix subscription – your blog is way better! Now, if you guys ever come home…you know we won’t know what to do!
The trip looks – and sounds amazing – and we are especially enjoying the essays! (Huge, it looks like you were the one that always stole the show when it came to “what I did on my summer vacation” in grade school 😉)

Thanks for sharing and enjoy the rest of your tour…you know we will…if only vicariously!
