WELCOME TO THE MEDINA

We have had a chance to explore the hotel a little last night and early this morning……..you would never expect something this beautiful to exist with the up front street setting it has, but that’s Morocco, and we have seen it before. I think we will enjoy our stay here. Breakfast and lunch come with the room, and we are handed a fairly comprehensive menu that covers all the bases……..no Full Irish, but more than enough to start your day.

A trip to the medina (the old city)is in the works following breakfast so we gather downstairs and head out into the organized chaos for about a 15 minute walk to the main square Jemaa el-Fnaa, home to snake charmers, acrobats, and people selling everything under the sun. Being here puts you in a state of sensory overload……..so much going on all around you………a great introduction to the medina for Sibylle, John and Monica. We are in search of the “shoe” street that Jutta and I spent some time on during our last visit……..a number of shoe vendors all in a row offering, I’m guessing, a half million pairs of shoes in just this one area. Ok maybe that number is a little off, but not by much, and if you can’t find exactly what you want, they will make it for you and you can pick it up by 6pm. Going up the alleys behind the souks (shops) you will find the manufacturing areas…….people making all the product you see out on the street……really amazing.

You guessed it GOAT SHOES

We are back at the hotel in time to catch lunch service, and again it is a set menu, but the chef offers a daily feature, starter and main course. Fabulous again…….I am going to be as big as a house when I get home…….ok enough, I know some of you are saying duplex.

Lunch on the terrace…..how civilized

A relaxing afternoon for some, although the goats decide to put in a few more miles. We gather in the cosy main floor bar for our pre-dinner cocktails, and have a chat with a couple of american girlfriends who are on a husbandless trip, and hitting some of the spots we have discussed around Marrakech and in the Atlas Mountains. Info exchanged…….all good. Dinner is amazing once again…….noticing there are non-hotel guests here for dinner also………popular spot. First day of golf in Marrakech tomorrow………wooo hoooo.

A LITTLE COFFEE BREAK FOR THE BOYS
