We planned our tee times with Johnnie Walker so that when Monica and John arrived we would get to play three of the premium courses from his list during their stay. Today is Finca Cortisan…….a return trip for us having played it during our first week, and to be honest, we have been looking forward to going back since then. Finca Cortesín is located within the municipality of Casares, in the province of Málaga, right in the heart of the Costa del Sol. This Andalusian village combines the charm of a traditional whitewashed town with landscapes that stretch from the mountains to the coastline. It is a beautiful property, totally manicured, with wonderful staff ready to make your stay absolutely perfect, whether it just be for a round of golf, or a stay in one of the two hotels. There is a good core membership here, but not too many folks around in November, so the course is pretty quiet.

We look forward to a fast round LOL……….right! Finca is best know for having hosted the 2023 Solheim Cup, but has also hosted the Volvo World Match Play Championships on the men’s side. This is a tough golf course any way you look at it……..greens are fair, but can be diabolical if you get on the wrong side of a hole…….elevations and countour make even the simplest shot down a fairway something you have to be careful with. An English foursome leads the way for the apres member tee times and we are right behind playing as a twosome and a threesome…….they are good golfers, and are moving right along…….they offer us a playthrough on the fourth hole but we decline and tell them the pace is just fine, in fact we finish the front in just under two hours……..can it be? It was too good to be true……..the lads are waiting on the 10th tee when we arrive, with a foursome in front of them doing the Hokey Pokey down at the green, seemingly unable to get the ball in the hole……..and that is it……..a slog for the rest of the round, and back to Costa Del Sol pace. In their defense, the marshall did offer us the chance to skip a couple of holes and come back later to play 10-11, but the ladies would not be able to do the same so we stayed where we were. Great golf course and an excellent facility……a must play if you are down this way.

We have plans tonight to catch a little Spanish guitar performance at Jutta’s Hotel in the Plaza de las Flores, old town. Do I need to say it again…….great food……great setting in the bar…….great music. The only hitch was that our waiter, in fact nobody serving in the bar, could speak English. They mistook Jutta when she asked that the dishes she and Sibylle had ordered would be shared, thinking that everything we ordered was for sharing………so one by one, dishes arrived, and it wasn’t until the manager arrived that he figured out the mistake. So it was an interesting service to say the least, but we made the best of it………should have worked harder in Grade 11-12 Spanish!
