OLD TOWN

Today is another golf free day, and following discussions last night at dinner, sounds like Jutta and Sibylle are hoofing it into town for some shopping.

Just wingin’ it
You have to be on your tippy toes if you have any hope of taking off

Sheila is going to look into a sunset cruise for herself later tonight, and yours truly is on the bike exploring, and hooking up with the goats for lunch.  J&S are off and I am wrapping up online when Sheila tells me she is expanding her cruise ………taking a ferry to Tangiers, Morocco.  WOW, exciting.  She is excited also having never travelled alone since she was twenty something, and is now trading in her blue jeans and backpack for some roller luggage and a golf bag!  All booked, she is a short Uber from the ferry and will stay in Tangiers at least overnight and see what tomorrow brings.  Big surprise obviously, but as Sheila said, “I’ve never been to Morocco and can’t be this close without paying it a visit.”  The ferry takes an hour and a half, so she will be having tagine for dinner this evening.

I am exploring all the way into town on Wolffy.  I’ve never ridden an e-bike before so this is a real treat.  The battery assist is great, and it is not as though you can just turn it up and coast uphill………I have to be pedaling for the electric motor to engage, and if going uphill I still have to use the bike gears to determine how hard I want to push.  Very cool.  The coastal route is perfect, and nice that someone in years past decided that it would remain open for the public to use, and even when a big hotel or condo goes in, they preserve the coastal path.  This is a walking kinda town I’ll tell ya……..always loads of people out strolling along the front……..feel a little guilty zipping past them on the bike………….well sort of……….but not like I’m getting off or anything.

El Cielo Skybar on the way into town……on the list of places to visit.

Old town is just the best.  Built on and around a large hill, with narrow cobblestone streets with the buildings adorned with flowers and greenery of all kinds.  Loads of clay pots hanging off the walls……..quite a sight to see……..many small businesses operating in this part of town also……..green grocers, butcher, baker, barber, and obviously bar/restaurants and some select clothing stores. When you come down the hill within a couple of blocks of the shore road, things get quite modern and commercial…….the goats call it Yonge Street, or Yorkdale……..can’t say they are wrong.

Isn’t this brilliant…..stair/slide/climb combo

Apparently all done by the locals

We have another bite to eat in Plaza De Las Flores, served up by Hotel El Pilar where Jutta swears she is staying on our next visit down here.  Ab Fab……some of the best French fries I have ever had……..and I have had a lot of French fries…….let me tell you!!!!………watermelon halloumi cheese salad, croquettes 4 ways, glass of beer………should be enough fuel to get me home…….fantastic.

Well obviously Sheila is not here when I get home, and I hope she is having a blast and staying safe over there.  Sibylle is laying low, so Jutta and I decide it is time to go back to the meat restaurant that wasn’t even open the other night…….Sibaritas……grab some goodies takeout and eat with her at home.  We are warmly welcomed by Frank who is helping out his friend Thomas the owner who is back in the kitchen…………Frank tells us he is an architect……..oh yeah I’m thinking, and probably works for Vandelay Industries designing railroads……..but a great guy who spent some time in Oakville and Muskoka one summer chasing small cats.  Thomas the boss is a real treat and makes sure we sample his wine from OMG  Winery and leave with everything we need.  I don’t think they make bad food in Spain!………our takeout meal was great, and the best way to close out another superb day.

Hoofenschlaken
Thomas the boss……winemaker/chef/all round good guy
Nice selection
