Up early this morning and looking forward to our first round of golf on the new course at Attalaya G&CC………still a little miffed that I didn’t get a bike yesterday so will be heading down this morning to a spot I discovered on Google Maps a couple of months ago……..”La Casa de las Bicicletas”…….no website, no email, family run operation with great reviews…….I’m going down for a look, and Jutta decides to come along. I bought an e-SIM for my phone before arriving in Spain, so maps is working like a charm and I only get lost occasionally, well……..sometimes……but managed to find this shop first try. Parking is quite a thing around here……..there isn’t any!!!!………found a spot a block away and walked back to the shop. Just like I expected………father and son working away together in the shop fixing bikes……..30-40 or so bikes outside, presumably the rental fleet……..I started trying to talk to the son, but I guess he skipped English class…….probably did as well as I did in Spanish……….Pop’s is game for a chat though and we start chatting about what he has available……full on pedal bikes he tells me are 10 euros/day……electric assist bikes vary, but he points out the two Cadillac’s of the fleet, one red, one blue, honkin’ fat tire, disc brake, jacked up suckers he tells me are 15/day………looking good……..sign me up! Pop’s looks over my shoulder behind me and points to an approaching lady with a matching T-shirt to his………”mi esposa” and I realize immediately that I have been talking to the wrong person. “Mi esposa“ points out that Pop’s English “Not so good” and the Caddy’s are 50/day, not 15………OK so we go through the pedal vs electric thing, and she is cool that I play golf every second day or so, and offers me a smaller, less beefy version of the Caddy………like a Chevy I guess…….for 20/day, 140/week……..this lady wants to rent me a bike!……we end up 100/week, she throws in a helmet (XXXL even she was surprised), and a lock, combo attached if you want to steal…….and I am golden. Took him for a little test ride and realized I am riding a WolffBike…….wooo hooooooo…… ……..Mikey……you never told us.

Th density of properties all the way south to get the bike is amazing…….traffic is pretty thick, but we are home in plenty of time to load the clubs into Little Ninja and head out to the course. Everyone is anxious and ready to play. The ladies check in and I park the black beauty.

It is a 15 minute ride from the clubhouse to the first tee of the New Course and it looks from the lay of the land that we will be playing up, down, and across this hillside all day.………literally canyons running up and down the hill in between residential developments………..there is a Peter Gustafsson golf school here which is even farther beyond the first tee, but we have time, so we go and check it out……one of the only Trackman Ranges in Spain????? That’s what I heard, and it is busy like crazy…….can’t even get a tee box or a bucket of balls……..can’t warm up……whaaaat……well who needs to warm up, and who the $#@% is Peter Gustafsson anyway??……..back to #1 and off we go. Pretty short course, but tight and tricky. Many sloping fairways as we play up and across the hills…………hit it down the middle, and you could end up off the fairway (Huge)……….hit it into the trees, and with a good roll off the banking, miss a few obstacles and you could end up in the middle of the fairway (Jutta Sibylle)! Greens were like Velcro……heavily sanded and uncut. Surrounding properties and the views were spectacular. Who lives in all of these properties? Thousands upon thousands of units everywhere.
A very interesting introduction to golf in Costa del Sol. The next couple of courses we play are in the premium category, so we will see what the top end looks like and go from there.

We eat dinner at the club following golf……great homemade pizza, cold beer, life is good.
