Planes Trains and Automobiles

In years past, and more often than not, sometime during the last week of October and first week of November you would find Jutta and I on the road heading south to Hilton Head or Florida to escape the crappy weather during shoulder season at home.  This year we decided to shake it up a little, and have booked the month in Spain……Costa del Sol……followed by a ten day stint in Morocco, returning home December 9.  Excited?……you bet your ass we are.  I am traveling with a full contingent of goats for the first two weeks………obviously the “Sista Goats”, Jutta and Sibylle, and a return engagement with “She Goat”, Sheila, who joined us last year in Ireland…….like the starter at Rosapenna said last year…….”Yer playin’ wit tree wimen?”…………”Aye” I said, “It’s me wife, me sister in law, and me girlfriend”………”Och” he said “You Canadians sure know how te live!”

All that aside, we have a long day of travel ahead of us, departing Toronto 10pm’ish on October 31st, short layover in Paris, then a quickie flight to Malaga, expected to arrive there at around 5pm November 1.  All in with driving time to the airport and travel to our condo in Estepona, we should be on the road for about 18 hours.  Shouldn’t be too bad though as Jutta scored  BC seats with Air France the whole way, and I heard a rumor somewhere that they have great champagne in the lounge! (True)

The sista goats have been discussing excursion and golfing options for months now, and true to form, their ability to mispronounce names is in fine form.  I thought Ireland was bad with just different dialects, but when you throw in a foreign language, the results are quite spectacular.  Our home town for the month “Estepona” has at one time or another been called Estemona, Espetona, or Esterona , and my personal favorite Espadona.  We employed the services of a golf concierge to help us navigate through the numerous options available in this part of the country.  I am guessing there are probably 100 golf courses within an hours drive of where we are staying, so it was good to have someone break it all down for us.  Sightseeing trips will fill our off days, and we hope to get to all the usual hotspots……..Gibraltar, Marbella, Ronda, etc., etc..

Great plane with the first bed that actually fits this bod.

We have a great little minivan for the month………..not another people mover like last year………our condo is fantastico, in a small 13 unit building right on the shore just south of the marina (hotspot)……..and from first glance, although busy, we won’t be short of things to do, or places to eat/drink during our stay.

I think we will be spending a lot of time on the patio.
Too bad about the view

We spent a couple of hours trying to figure out how to get the Jays game on the TV, but the best we could do was find it on Dutch ESPN…….too tired…….hit the sack with audio of the game playing, and last I checked we were up 4-2 bottom of the 7th………woke up to the bad news this morning and I don’t even want to see it!  Heading out to pick up some groceries and booze for the condo………trying to find a reasonable place to rent bikes for the month as this path out front of the condo runs for miles……..easy way to get to town and back……….no impaired driving charges either.  Bike shops quote by the hour, but sure they must have long term rates, otherwise we will be heading to Spanish Tire to buy some wheels.  Serious, probably cheaper than renting!

November 2…………BIG birthday today for Jutta……tapas extravaganza this evening.
