Quatro Picore Por dos Telemantendo…..”Tofino”

October 22

When you’re in a place named Tofino………you start to speak the lingo.  So what I don’t know, is, proper speak for this town……everyday folks are fine, speak the Queens English, and are actually much more polite than the rabble we hang out with in Blue Mountains……..then there are the foreigners, nice, but want to impress everyone when they yell “Helmut, wo is dein surfbrett” across the campground…..and then the actual surfers…….Duuuuuuuuude!, need I say more.  It is confusing I admit, but I choose to speak with an Italian accent most of the day, which is driving Jutta fu#%#! nuts.  “Tofino!!!”

We had a wonderful day today, springing out of bed at the crack of 9:00am ready to take on this town.  First on the agenda is coffee of course…….we made a cup in Plan B, but that is not what we are after……..we want the full deal, run it through the machine, extra shot, less foam, kick ass latte…….NOW……..and if you had a warm croissant on the side that would be great.  Settled, (happily), for the kick ass coffee, 4 in-house made doughnuts, and a BRONUT (breakfast sandwich on a doughnut)…….at Rhino Coffee House.  This was not the last BRONUT that will be consumed by this couple.

THE BRONUT
These guys like bronuts also.

Strolling through town was great, visiting a few galleries, gift shops, clothing stores, etc., and just generally making a nuisance of ourselves.  Masks on for sure in this town……glad to see!  We stopped in at a tour office, just to check out the bear viewing excursions they were offering, and I have to tell you, after the BRONUT, let’s just say things were brewing.  Jutta noticed a half open door in the office, and it was for sure my relief…………when I came out though, we were booked on a bear viewing excursion tomorrow……..small price to pay I guess.  Should be a good trip……will let you know tomorrow.

On the way home we stopped in at a number of smaller stores we have seen advertised or just in passing, and so far all have impressed……..this is a good place……we could be at a fancy hotel down the road, but at ground level, Tofino is a nice place to be.  Jutta has been busy booking some dinners, but based on what we know from friends and family, some of the spots we must, must, visit, are essentially food trucks and take-out joints……really cool.

We have moved a couple of doors down to a new site, which means we are now good for the next 8 days…….if I had a story to tell about my second backing-in in two days, I would tell it now………non-event…….routine…….very professional…….it was more fun when I had no idea!

There was a small incident after moving locations when I decided it was time to dump the tanks……..I neglected to remove two hose plugs on the hose extension I required to reach the dump station at our site.  Consequently, my initial release from the black water tank became stalled a short distance from the outflow……..let’s just say it was messy, and the rubber gloves came in handy.  Man, I am learning some things on this trip I never thought I would need to know.  I didn’t notice anything at the scene of the crime, but our neighbours across the way (downwind), sure gave me some dirty looks when I surfaced from the business side of the trailer.

We had a mini walk on the beach, watched some surfers, then I hung out at the washroom patio for a while so I could get good wifi, book our bicycles for later in the week, and buy a couple of fishing licences.  The washroom is where the wifi signal is strongest…….how convenient.

Dinner tonight at SOBO…….apparently we have cooked recipes from the SOBO cookbook, and have been served the same……..ie: Julie’s Hippie Chicken………great stuff.  Jutta is trying to schedule our dinners, and know with finding the local fish market we will have a couple of nights at home with the BBQ, and look forward to that.  Tomorrow brings the bear excursion…….taking the big camera, so hopefully some good shots.
