Kelowna – Knox Mtn. & Myra Canyon
Today we have planned a later start due to some rainy weather in the forecast, planning to rent/ride bikes up on the Myra Canyon Trail which features a number of railroad trestles. Our plans fell apart a little when the rental guy called in the morning to say what was rain in Kelowna last night, was snow up in Myra Canyon, and he wouldn’t be opening today as the trail and trestles would be too dangerous. Sam called to say they would be taking Fernie for a walk in Knox Mountain Park adjacent to downtown, and we decided to follow along. Jutta was in Kelowna with the GBC girls last spring, and knew the route up Knox……..steep initially, but then it levelled out a little…….beautiful views the whole way. A quick Starbucks stop followed, then we were off to Myra Canyon.

Sometimes the GPS doesn’t take you exactly where you want to go……..with me in the lead, 8km up a muddy, washboard, dirt road, we ended up at the wrong end of the trail………back down, traverse across the bottom a few km, then back up another dirt road for 8km. This is a busy spot this weekend, and in a few minutes we would see why. Initially stunning distant views of Kelowna, followed by the deep canyon with train trestles all around, and evidence of the 2003 Kelowna Mountain fire which scorched everything in the area, including the trestles. Luckily they have been rebuilt and are now one of the top attractions in Kelowna.

Sam and Vytas have an Air B&B for the weekend, and we made good use of their laundry. All campgrounds so far have closed their facilities so it was great to get a load done without having to search out a laundromat.

Dinner tonight is a Cedar Creek Winery, but we manage to squeeze in a tasting at Summerhill winery beforehand. We have selected a three course wine pairing meal, and are immediately impressed with the setting and the facility when we arrive. The meal was fantastic, and it was fun trying the different wines that you would normally ever order. I did order a bottle of their Syrah for the table and it turned out to be amazing………it is also not available for sale at the winery as their remaining supply is very limited.

The weather forecast looks horrible, with a storm moving across the province tomorrow. Sam and Vytas are driving back to Vancouver, and we have golf scheduled at The Rise in Vernon. We’ll see what happens!!
