October 11
Canyon Farms, Kelowna
Woo Hoo…….our first morning when we didn’t have to get up and get on the road. How great is this. We had a lovely breakfast compliments of Sam and Vytas from their go to pastry shop in North Van, and ate almost everything in the box. We have a hike planned this morning on one of the many trails up here in the Gallagher Canyon area…….should be 10km round trip. It was a great trail, crossing back and forth over a stream a number of times, but heavily forested and not very scenic, with quite a few groups out there taking advantage of the great day.

Sam brought the makings of a terrific charcuterie board, and she and Jutta put it all together back at camp. Great fun sitting outside enjoying a little vino (ok a lot), some good tunes, and great company. Fernie did his best to get all the attention, much as you would expect from an 8 month old pup.

Reservations tonight are at Quails Gate on the west side, and we went over early to try and catch a late tasting at Mission Hills, but unfortunately they were closed……..still enjoyed the views and sculpture…….beautiful property.

Another fantastic dinner. Jutta and I haven’t eaten out in so long……..this is a real treat. Folks in BC are taking Covid seriously, but are more relaxed when it comes to dining in restaurants. We were not required to wear masks but all staff did………tables were properly spaced and greatly reduced in number from pre-Covid days. Our meal was accompanied by a lovely merlot we ordered, but I noticed another bottle on the wine list that caught my eye………a foch. I asked the waiter to bring me a trial glass before I would consider ordering a bottle, and of course my Scottish roots kicked in asking for a glass of the foch, as in……….och aye…….och aye the noo……..och aye Jimmy. We discussed at the table whether or not my pronunciation was correct, and Vytas with his Lithuanian roots kicking in I guess, suggested it might be more like “fok”…………..needless to say this started a string of comments, Irish accents, and much laughter. It wasn’t until we ordered a bottle, because it was very good, that the waiter solved the puzzle, presenting it at the table and saying “Sir this is the fosh”. Who would know????

We wrapped it up for the evening, knowing that tomorrow our schedule looked much like today, although hiking was to be replaced by biking, followed of course by drinking and dining. Cheers.
